]]> Antonia Fasanelli became the Executive Director of the National Homelessness Law Center in April 2021.

Previously, she was Executive Director of the Homeless Persons Representation Project, Inc. (HPRP), a Maryland-based civil legal aid organization committed to changing the systems that contribute to poverty and homelessness.  During her thirteen-year tenure at HPRP, she incubated innovative civil legal aid projects providing legal assistance to all persons experiencing homelessness, including youth and veterans—as well as systemic initiatives to decriminalize homelessness and advance policies to end homelessness, all by lifting the voices of persons most affected by homelessness.

Tristia went to law school to fight against the systems that create poverty and inequity. She has spent her legal career working for the liberation and dignity of all people, with a focus on ending the criminalization of homelessness. She began her legal career in the courts and jails as a public defender in Miami, and later as Senior Attorney at the National Homelessness Law Center. She is currently Directing Attorney of housing at the Law Foundation of Silicon Valley.

Founder and Interim Executive Director of Safe Parking Los Angeles

Emily Uyeda Kantrim, the interim executive director of Safe Parking LA, has a career characterized by remarkable achievements in addressing homelessness and leading a groundbreaking response to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2016, Kantrim began her journey as an advocate for safe parking strategies to address the rapidly growing number of people and families in Los Angeles County whose only source of shelter is their vehicle. Collaborating with Safe Parking LA’s founders, she played a pivotal role in effecting local policy changes that allowed community-based agencies to provide safe parking services.

Kantrim’s commitment to addressing homelessness extends beyond her role at Safe Parking LA. She temporarily stepped away to serve as the Director of COVID Response for LA County. In this role, she oversaw a workforce of 350 multidisciplinary staff, delivering crucial services like testing, vaccinations, quarantine support, and guidance to over 66,000 homeless individuals across Los Angeles County.

]]> Dr. Graham J. Pruss is an anthropologist who studies vehicle residency in North America. His research focuses on the intersection of lived experiences, social services, legal systems, and public policy development. Graham joined the Benioff Homelessness and Housing Initiative at the University of California San Francisco’s Center for Vulnerable Populations as a Postdoctoral Scholar in 2020, after receiving his PhD from the University of Washington Department of Anthropology. Dr. Pruss mixes participatory, qualitative, and quantitative methods to better inform policy makers and convey complex research to non-academic audiences. Graham was inspired to focus on the habitation of vehicles in public space by extensive travel with his family in vehicles during his childhood and close relationships with long-term vehicle residents throughout his life. He brings diverse perspectives to research on housing adaptation and instability, as a former social service outreach specialist for vehicle residents (2013-2015) and previous recipient of social welfare programs as a homeless youth and teen parent in the 1990s.
